QUEEN’S PARK – Teresa Armstrong, NDP critic for Child Care, released the following statement for the Child Care Now’s National Day of Action, in solidarity with the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care (OCBCC), Early Childhood Educators (ECEs), and families and advocates from across Ontario:
“Every November, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the critical role that ECEs play in the lives of children, families, and our communities. ECEs are the backbone of our childcare system, but they face untenable challenges. Workers and families alike are suffering the consequences of a lack of leadership from the Ford Government on these important issues.
“The government’s promises for $10-a-day childcare cannot succeed without a strong, supported workforce. ECEs need a clear wage grid, better working conditions, and respect for their expertise to stay in this critical field. Parents and educators alike are united in this cause because we understand that investing in child care is investing in the future.
“On this Day of Action, let’s commit to standing with ECEs—not just today, but every day—until they get the support they need. Ontario’s children and families depend on it.”
